12 THINGS YOU CAN DO TO MAKE 2018 YOUR BEST YEAR YET!

Well hello everybody, and Happy New Year!!!

I hope you all had time to rest and recover over the holiday break and are refreshed and ready to take on 2018! Whilst it’s incredibly powerful to create change and set intentions and goals in motion on the 1st of January, I want to remind you that you can re-set and re-boot… whenever you choose! So if you fall off the “goals” band wagon at any point, be compassionate with yourself and simply jump back on!

So how do you go about making 2018 one of your best years yet? Start with some powerful intentions, turn them into actions and then make them habits. Here are a few ideas to get you started!

  • Make yourself a “DIY Happiness” Check-list.

Yes, thats right – DIY – because your happiness is ultimately… up to YOU! Grab a piece of paper and start listing all the things you could possibly do to bring you joy whenever you are in need of a pick me up throughout the year. When we get down (which is inevitable) we tend to get lost in the slump, this little list will help remind you of all the things that are worth smiling about. It could be something as simple as “Go for a walk at the beach” or “Research a new recipe and make it”

  • Begin a Meditation Practice.

Easier said than done, I know. But simply finding 5 minutes a day where you can sit, close your eyes and focus on nothing else but simply your breath has an enormous effect on your well-being in the long run. If you find it hard to focus, perhaps find a guided meditation app or listen to a pod cast! My favourite podcast to listen to while I am walking or driving is “Live Awake” (www.liveawakeproject.com) which you can find on Soundcloud. Otherwise I highly suggest the mobile apps Headspace, Simple Habit & Calm.

  • Wake up and go look at yourself in the mirror first thing in the morning.

Every morning when you wake up, instead of reaching for your phone I want you to instead walk to the closest mirror and tell yourself something positive. I mean it. Stuff like “I freaking LOVE you” or “I am so grateful for this body” or “I approve of myself!” Make this a habit every day, generate the feelings of love and approval first thing in the morning and that is exactly what you will attract for your day!

  • Every time you feel angry – think of it like Money.

Imagine if every time you lost your temper or got angry behind the wheel – that you were in fact paying that person who you were throwing rage at $10. Would we all not be a little more careful where and who we became angry at? Suddenly you would stop and think “Is it necessary to pay this person so much money?” and “Is it really worth it?”  Next time you find yourself wanting to hold on to anger, think of it like money.

  • Practice Gratitude.

What you think – you attract. The more grateful you are, the more you attract things to be grateful for. Buy yourself a journal you love so much that you would never want to lose it and every day before you go to bed write down 5 things you are grateful for that day. It can be something as simple as “I had an awesome lunch” or “A random stranger smiled at me!”

  • Book a Retreat.

Nothing is more exciting or makes a crazy schedule seem a little less daunting like having a holiday to look forward to! So do it! Plan ahead and book a trip away and stick to it.

  • Less Social Media & UN-FOLLOW.

You know that account you follow that makes you want to change something about your body, face, personality, life-style and bank account in a negative way and ultimately makes you think that your life sucks because you’re not them?
Yeah that one – Un-follow it.

  • Make a Vision Board.

The simple act of translating your imagination onto paper is a huge step in the goal department! Gather a few old magazines and cut out images or words that inspire and motivate you and pin it to a cork board or frame it up! Put it somewhere in your bedroom so that it’s the first thing you see when you begin your day. You’ll be surprised when you look back at the end of the year and see all the things that you have actually manifested and brought into your life.

  • Make every meal an occasion.

Breakfast, lunch, dinner or even a simple snack. Celebrate it! How lucky we are to have such easy access to food, and good food at that! So practice mindfulness when you eat and be completely present in the moment! Not only will your body thank you for the focus and work more efficiently because of that, but it will also help you slow down.

  • Get adequate sleep & Drink lots of water.

An oldie but a goodie/MUST-ie. These two principles are the foundations to our very existence. Believe me – I too am a total culprit of forgetting to put these two first sometimes, but it’s a basic must!

  • Decide & DO.

I truly believe that this simple act is what will set your year apart if you stick to it. Often when our minds get bombarded with lots of goals it’s hard for the universe/source/energy/god/higher power (whichever you like to call it) to differentiate between all these different “wants” that we have. And most of the time, it isn’t able to deliver because we haven’t actually decided on what we want. So this year, instead of thinking of things you would like to do, focus on things you have decided you want in your life this very moment and then DO something about it!

  • Be Present.

All you have is this moment. It is the only thing you have control over – so there in lies – the magic. Find the moment, and you will find your magic!
